Entropy Lab

Located in San Jose, California, this project is an experiment in the manipulation of grid structures. The lab’s hypothesis is stated simply as this: the current situation of Silicon Valley is one of sprawl and high levels of entropy. The established architectural discourse is to resist this condition, ours is to accelerate it. My micro-hypothesis is stated: research into one of the most basic and least questioned of laboratory planning systems – the grid – represents a holy grail of not only flexibility, but also the self-assuring perception of an open and unbiased mode of planning for the future. As such, a tool may be unearthed on the other side of a progression of max-min grid experiments with which the unfamiliar, completely disorienting and pseudo-science fiction condition of Silicon Valley may be engaged.
